Welcome to Baseball Purist!

The rule changes put forth by Major League Baseball (MLB) in recent years have prompted us here at Baseball Purist to recall our inner Howard Beale from Network and shout from our keyboards, “I am mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!”

For the good of the game the commissioner and the owners have decided the game is sliding into oblivion and needs drastic changes. The supposed caretakers of the sport, will not save the sport, but are desecrating it with these obscene rule changes. If you are to believe the commissioner and the owners, the state of the game must evolve or it will wither away if we do not accept these drastic changes.

We here at Baseball Purist completely disagree with the owners’ and commissioner’s assessment of the game’s current status. Instead we view this as an ongoing hunger by owners (as well as the players) for more money. There is never enough money for these parties. In the end, it is the die hard fans that must now suffer with these blasphemous rules changes to make the game “faster” and “more desirable” to a younger fan base.

These rule changes have therefore prompted us to create this forum for those like ourselves who are as outraged as Howard Beale and want to voice their displeasure. We look also forward to debate all the detractors who simply view us as old timers (FYI, we are not that old) who are stuck in the past, and rebellious to any changes in the game.
