As we noted this past summer, MLB chose a less than inspiring line of uniforms for its last All-Star game. Evidently, MLB did not learn from those fashion reviews, since they have now followed that up with see-through uniforms that have both the players and the Players Association up in arms over the new duds.
Mike Mikolas of the St. Louis Cardinals noted that, “Players are pretty unhappy. They (pants) also don’t fit right; pants are no longer as customized, and the fabric is a very different consistency. Another player stated, “they look cheap”.
One unnamed Baltimore Oriole described the uniforms as, “Like a knockoff jersey from T.J. Maxx”.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here are some photos of the new uniforms that show their see through nature.

This for a uniform that MLB sells on their online shop to fans for more than $350 and more than $400 for a customized version.
While there has been finger pointing between the designer (Nike) and Fanatics (manufacturer) on the uniforms’ flaws, the true blame belongs to MLB who has final approval over such designs. In the big picture, this latest debacle of Commissioner Rob Manfred is just another reason why fans should have little faith in MLB’s judgment to do what is right by either the fans or the players.
